Many of you have asked me about DBI and the work we do there. For those of you who are interested, here is a little background.
The purpose of Desert Bible Institute is to raise up people to be salt and light in their community. (Matthew 5:13-16) We wish them to be salt by having a deep, personal understanding of both God and what his Word says. We want our studentsnot only to be hearers of the Word but also learners and doers of the Word. DBI does not want our students simply to gain knowledge for knowledge’s sake but to go into their communities and share the Good News to all whom will hear it. Additionally, we teach our students to share the salt of their knowledge with grace to both the believer and the unbeliever alike. (Colossians 4:6). We believe knowledge of the Word should be used to build up believers rather than attacking or diminishing others (Ephesians 4:29). Above all, DBI exhorts its graduates to give an answer to those who wish to know about the Lord at all times but only with a gentleness and respect that reflects that of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 3:15)
We thank Jesus Christ for the gifts that he has given us to know and understand him. We thank Him for the opportunities that this school provides to know Him better. It is through His message of truth that He gave birth to us. (James 1:18) It is also through that truth that both we and those we minister to are given the hope found in Jesus Christ. (Colossians 1:5) For it is from Christ we learn the truth and are marked in his name. (Ephesians 1:13) In all, we at Desert Bible Institute will produce, and be, men and women of God “guiding the word of truth along a straight path.” (2 Timothy 2:15) May God bless you and guide you in your endeavor to know him better and to share his Word with the world.
